TORONTO — A Toronto man faces multiple charges after he allegedly held a bus driver at knifepoint and demanded to be driven to a Tim Hortons early Friday morning.
Police said the incident happened at about 12:30 a.m. ET after authorities were alerted of a person in crisis on a Toronto Transit Commission bus in the area of Highway 400 and Steeles Avenue East in Vaughan.
The man allegedly held the bus driver at knifepoint and told him to speed through red lights until they reached a Tim Hortons. Upon arrival, the man allegedly entered the Tim Hortons and called 911 to inform authorities he believed he had overdosed on drugs.
Police said they managed to track down the transit vehicle, usher customers out of the store and arrest the man without incident.
The driver did not suffer any injuries and there were no passengers on board the bus at the time.
Daniel Ferreia, 31, of Toronto has been charged with assault with a weapon, mischief endangering life, forcible confinement, uttering threats and taking a motor vehicle without consent. He was scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
