At the ripe “old” age of 32, actress Olivia Wilde was reportedly too long in the tooth to play Leonardo DiCaprio‘s love interest in the 2013 movie The Wolf of Wall Street.
Wilde revealed to radio host Howard Stern that she actually auditioned for the role of Naomi Lapaglia, wife to DiCaprio’s Jordan Belfort character, but was rejected.

She was initially told by casting representatives that she was too “sophisticated” for the part of Lapaglia, but Wilde said she later discovered they actually said “old.”

“I want to make a translation sheet for Hollywood that’s all the feedback your agents give you and what it really means,” she quipped.
In real-life terms, at the time of shooting Wilde was 28 and DiCaprio was 37 — a difference of 9 years, while the actress eventually cast in the role, Margot Robbie, was 22, which is a 15-year gap.
Wilde managed to extract something good from the experience, however; the audition led to her getting cast in HBO TV series Vinyl.

“It shows that if you don’t get something — job interview, whatever you do for a living — it might lead to something else,” Wilde added.
