VIDEO: Historic ranch donated to Stampede

Rancher, oilman and philanthropist Bill Siebens is donating part of his historic OH Ranch near Longview to the Calgary Stampede Foundation in honour of the Stampede’s centennial.

The gift includes the almost 8,000-acre southern portion of the ranch and its historic buildings, including the 1885 ranch house, the old cookhouse and a replica of a Northwest Mounted Police cabin.

The donation is valued at more than $11-million.

Siebens says he wants to make sure an important part of western history is preserved.

“I know that in their hands the southern portion of the OH Ranch will be well cared for for the next 100 years. This is my gift to the people of Alberta. This land will give Albertans a big, beautiful connection to their past- a connection that will endure for many future generations.”

Bill Siebens bought the ranch last year after the death of Calgary oilman Doc Seaman.
