It happened at The Beltliner, located in the 200 block of 12 Avenue S.W., at around 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Investigators said the car had been involved in a collision with an SUV on 12 Avenue and 2 Street S.W., which sent it careening into the restaurant’s patio and sliding glass doors.

The Beltliner was closed at the time of the incident.

“The most shocking thing about this is we’re open 15 hours a day, every day of the week,” co-owner Eric Francis said. “Sunday is the one day of the week where we close at four o’clock – this happened about an hour later. We’re just so glad that nobody was in here.”

“Had people been in here…I don’t even want to talk about how bad that would have been.”

Neither of the drivers involved suffered major injury.

The crash didn’t cause any major structural damage to the eatery.

The owners are hoping to reopen The Beltliner with at least partial service on Tuesday morning.
