UPDATE: Snowmobiler killed in avalanche near Celista

UPDATE: Chase RCMP confirm a 38-year-old man has died after being involved in an avalanche. His body was recovered and removed from the area on Sunday.

Police say the man is from Celista and his name is not being released at this time.

CELISTA–Shuswap Search and Rescue is searching for a snowmobiler, believed to have been caught up in an avalanche Sunday morning.

They received a call around 11:45 a.m. that an avalanche had come down in the area of the Crowfoot Mountain Snowmobile Club, and that one person had been caught up in it.

John Schut is Search Manager with Shuswap Search and Rescue.  He says a helicopter has been deployed along with two avalanche technicians from Shuswap Search and Rescue and one avalanche technician from Golden.

Schut says the team is conducting probe and beacon searches for the man.
