A strong storm hit B.C.’s south coast Sunday, causing power outages across Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland
At its peak, approximately 16,000 customers were without power in the Lower Mainland/Sunshine Coast, and approximately 14,000 customers were without power in southern Vancouver Island. Most of the outages have now been restored.
At its peak, people in Victoria and the Fraser Valley experienced gusts of up to 80 kilometres an hour.
The winds also forced delays on several BC Ferries sailings.
Snowfall warnings have been issued for the Kootenay Lake, Boundary, Fraser Canyon, Fraser Valley, Nicola, Similkameen, and West Kootenay regions.

This weekend’s stormy weather comes days after a windstorm claimed the life of a Port Moody woman and left thousands without power on B.C.’s south coast.
