“The safety of our students is of top priority for the Halifax Regional School Board,” said spokesperson Kelly Connors. “These charges are deeply troubling.”

Connors confirms that Harnish is currently on leave but said the school board would not be discussing any further details about the case because it is both a personnel matter and under police investigation.

Friday, RCMP arrested 36-year-old Sarah Allt Harnish and charged her with sexual assault and sexual interference.

Harnish was released from custody on a number of conditions, including not to have any contact with the alleged victim and no contact with anyone under the age of 16.

The court also ordered Harnish to remain away from schools, parks, playgrounds, pools, community centres, or any place known to be frequented by children.

None of the allegations have been proven in court. Harnish is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court on May 3 to answer to the charges.
