Woman and her dog flee townhouse fire in Cedarbrae

CALGARY – Smoke detectors are being credited with saving the lives of a Calgary woman and her dog.

Emergency crews were called to a townhouse in the 100 block of Cedardale Crescent S.W. at around 1 a.m. on Wednesday for reports of a fire.

When they arrived, firefighters found the blaze had spread to cover a significant portion of the home’s exterior.

Crews were able to extinguish the fire, and although it caused damage to the outside of the townhouse the interior was virtually untouched.

The homeowner was alerted to the fire by a smoke detector; she was able to grab her dog and get out safely before fire crews arrived.

The Calgary Fire Department said the incident demonstrates the importance of having working smoke alarms in your home.
