Three men and one youth have been charged with second-degree murder following a seven-month investigation into the death of a 22-year-old Camrose woman.
Mackenzie Leah Harris was reported missing by a friend on August 1, 2015. Two days later, her remains were found in a wooded area in the town of Calmar.
Harris’ death was ruled a homicide, although RCMP have never released the cause.
Over the weekend, police arrested and charged four people with Harris’ death.
Twenty-nine-year-old Kyle Scott of Leduc, 21-year-old Dylan Bakke of Red Deer and 39-year-old Christopher Stein of Millet have been charged with second-degree murder. Bakke has also been charged with committing an indignity to a dead body.
Scott was also charged with attempted murder stemming from an unrelated incident in 2014, police said in a media release Monday.
The fourth person, who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was charged with second-degree murder and committing an indignity to a dead body.
In August 2015, RCMP put out a public plea for information in the case. At the time, a friend of Harris’, Savannah Wickins, showed Global News a cryptic message Harris wrote on Facebook just before 5 a.m. the morning she was reported missing.
“Someone please help. I’m in Leduc stranded. They are trying to hurt me. I have no shoes. Someone help,” the message read.

All of the accused are scheduled to appear in court in Leduc on Thursday, March 10.
