’60 Minutes’ profile of Trudeau shows him boxing, discussing his father

WATCH ABOVE: Just days ahead of making the first state visit by a Canadian prime minister since 1997, Justin Trudeau appeared on CBS' '60 minutes' on Sunday, addressing a slate of topics – Mar 7, 2016

The CBS news program 60 Minutes has aired a somewhat fawning profile of Justin Trudeau, showing the prime minister trading blows in the boxing ring, defending his government’s decision to accept 25,000 Syrian refugees and discussing his father’s legacy.

The profile touts Trudeau as a “world leader” who pulled off an improbable political victory last October.

In one of the profile’s more heated exchanges, correspondent Lara Logan asked whether he was worried about a possible terror risk from bringing Syrian refugees to Canada.

The roughly 10-minute piece included moments on Trudeau’s 2012 bout with Sen. Patrick Brazeau, his “daunting” family name and tearful eulogy at father Pierre Trudeau’s funeral, as well as his decision to pull fighter jets from the battle against ISIS.

The flagship news magazine also made an apparent flub caught by some on Twitter when, in a segment discussing Justin Trudeau’s mother Margaret, they aired a photo instead of the elder Trudeau seemingly with actress Kim Cattrall.

It also shows Trudeau’s comments that Americans could pay a bit more attention to the world, which one Conservative MP labelled “smug.”

The profile airs just days before Trudeau is to be feted in Washington at a state dinner Thursday with President Barack Obama.
