Toronto-bound Air Canada flight diverted to London twice in one day

An Air Canada flight from Frankfurt to Toronto has been diverted to London’s Heathrow International Airport for the second time in a matter of hours.

Air Canada spokesperson Peter Fitzpatrick confirmed Flight AC873 first diverted to Heathrow Thursday morning “due to an electrical odour in the flight deck.”

Fitzpatrick said the plane “landed normally and safely” after the pilot declared an emergency. But once the plane took off to continue with the journey to Toronto, the same odour was detected once again, prompting another return to Heathrow.

Once again, the Boeing 777 landed safely.

According to Fitzpatrick, the 336 passengers on the Toronto-bound flight will now be put up in hotels for the night and rebooked on direct flights to Toronto Friday morning.
