Boutros Khalfan was the youngest of six siblings, the baby of the family. His older brother, Ben, was on his way to work when he got a call saying Boutros had been shot and killed.
Ben is still too shaken to speak about the loss; he will only say he’s in shock. The brothers’ cousin, Rufus, described a loving family man, who loved to rap.
“He’s a musican, he loved music, he’s a very sweet guy,” Rufus said. “I can’t even just explain right now…it’s a big loss.”
Police were called to the 100 block of Whiteview Road N.E. just before 3 a.m. for reports of shots fired. When they arrived, they found the 26-year-old dead.
While investigators aren’t releasing many details until an autopsy can be completed, they said they don’t believe this is related to the recent and ongoing gang violence in the city. Family told Global News Khalfan was headed to a party, but never made it inside.
Neighbours are left shaken and scared, not willing to be identified.

“I heard noise and I heard after the gunshots but I wasn’t going to go outside because I was told not to go outside if you hear something. I did hear and I did see a vehicle and that’s all I can say for now. I have to get down to the police station.”
Witnesses reported a white vehicle leaving the scene. Homicide detectives continue to investigate.
Khalfan’s family and friends are desperate for answers.
“We’re still trying to find out exactly what happened, we lost a very good guy,” Rufus said.
