KELOWNA — Four people were taken to hospital and a Kelowna man is facing criminal charges after a head-on crash on Saturday.
It was shortly before 9:00 p.m. when police responded to a report of a collision on Clement Avenue near St. Paul Street.
“Investigators have determined that a grey Mercedes CLS6 had crossed over the centre line and collided head on with a brown Dodge Caravan,” says Cst. Jesse O’Donaghey in a news release.
O’Donaghey says the lone occupant and driver of the Mercedes was a 23-year-old Kelowna man. He wasn’t injured in the incident.
“He displayed symptoms of impairment, and investigators entered into an impaired driving investigation. He was detained by police and subsequently refused to provide a breath sample back at the detachment,” says O’Donaghey in the release.
The driver was handed driving prohibitions under the Motor Vehicle Act and was later released from police custody on a Promise to Appear in Court.
He is facing potential criminal charges of impaired operation of a motor vehicle and failing or refusing to provide a breath sample.
Emergency Health Services treated the four occupants of the minivan, all with non-life threatening injuries, at the scene before transporting them to hospital.
“The minivan sustained extensive front-end damage to the front driver side of the vehicle,” says O’Donaghey.
