KELOWNA- It may only be February, but golf clubs around the Okanagan are open for business as if it’s already summer.
This week has seen multiple clubs in Kelowna open for golfers looking to get a head start on their season.

Mission Creek and Michaelbrook clubs have been in full swing since Friday, and tomorrow will see many more greens around the Interior do the same.

For Golf Pro Myles Johnson and his Spallumcheen course, history is being made: it’s only the second time in the club’s 46 year history that the course has been operational in February.

“This is very unusual. Last year was a pretty good year for opening and that was March 13th, and this is over two weeks earlier,” he says. “We’re very excited…it’s a nice way to start off the year.”

The Okanagan’s mild winter and double-digit temperatures in recent weeks have led to the early openings for the clubs, and golfers couldn’t be happier. Mission Creek has even reported members playing up to three rounds in one day.

“Golfers are thrilled. They’re so happy to be out here and the sun is out, so it’s exciting.”

The clubs will be hoping the forecasted rain will hold off this weekend to give residents a chance to practice their swings.
