REGINA – Health officials say Saskatchewan has its first confirmed case of the Zika virus.
The Public Health Agency of Canada has confirmed a single case of the virus.

Public health officials are doing all the necessary case follow-up work in the province by notifying the person and their physicians.
The Saskatchewan resident who contracted the Zika virus did travel to a country in the Southern Hemisphere.
Saskatchewan’s medical health officer Dr. Shahab will be speaking to the media on Friday.
The risk to Canadians who do not travel to one of the 48 infected countries or territories is considered very low since the type of mosquitoes that spread Zika don’t thrive in Canada.
