David Herrara-Giminez decided to play a joke on his girlfriend this week by pretending to be a murder victim. Herrara-Giminez staged the murder scene in their home, complete with a broken-in front door, overturned furniture and fake blood throughout the home.

Gimenez positioned himself face-down on their bed and was covered in what she thought was blood. A knife was made to look like it had been stabbed into his neck.

“I screamed and took off running and went across the street and called the police that my boyfriend was murdered,” his girlfriend told WLEX News.

Police arrived quickly on the scene.

“The only time he was hollering it was a joke was when the police came through the door and he had the knife in his hand, he dropped the knife and said it was a prank for my girlfriend because she was a few minutes late from work.”

While it wasn’t a crime to stage a murder, police did check Herrara-Giminez’s record and found an active warrant for failure to appear. He was arrested and is now facing deportation to Mexico.

“I’ve been asking myself all night. Why would he do something like this?” Herrara-Giminez’s girlfriend said.
