Woodworth said toxicology tests will be done as part of the autopsy.

Local media reported that the girl was under the care of the province and lived in a group home for girls under 18.

Heather Fairbairn, a spokesperson for the Department of Community Services, said the department does not speak about individual cases and would not confirm whether the girl was in provincial care.

But she said Community Services Minister Joanne Bernard has been made aware of the death.
