GoFundMe Launched To Make ‘Wayne’s World’ Sequel

Spawned by an unforgettable series of Saturday Night Live sketches, 1992’s Wayne’s World was a big-screen comedy hit that spawned the less-successful Wayne’s World 2.

And while anyone who saw the not-as-good-as-the-first-one sequel should immediately understand why there was never a Wayne’s World 3, that hasn’t stopped Trevor Schindeler of North Bay, Ontario, from spending the past 23 years trying to get somebody in Hollywood to make his script for a third Wayne’s World into a feature film.

As reported by UproxxSchindeler wrote the script in 1993, shortly after viewing Wayne’s World 2, and envisioned a futuristic sequel in which Wayne (Mike Myers) and Garth (Dana Carvey) are now in their 80s, still rockin’ while living in a retirement home.

One teensy problem: In two decades, Schindeler has been unable to get anyone interested in his script for Wayne’s Leisure World (which you can read right here) — and hasn’t even been able to get anyone in a position to get the movie made (including director Penelope Spheeris and agents for stars Mike Myers and Dana Carvey) to read it.

As a result, he has set up a GoFundMe page, where he explains his plight:

“For twenty-three years, I have tried to get someone, anyone, inside Fortress Hollywood to read my screenplay,” he writes. “To date, no one has. Everyone has refused to read it including producers, directors, actors, and even entertainment agents.

“Why? There is a strict policy in Hollywood against reading ‘unsolicited’ work. Of course, no one has been so kind as to ‘solicit’ my screenplay. Hollywood has circled the wagons to keep people like you and me out. Playing by Hollywood’s rules is not working.  That is why I am mounting this social media campaign to storm the barricades of Fortress Hollywood.”

So why not just let it go? “I could rest easy if someone inside Fortress Hollywood had read the screenplay and told me it sucked,” he writes. “I could move on. What motivates me is that I know that I have a hilarious screenplay sitting in my computer collecting dust. I want to share it.”

His goal: to raise $2,500, with which “to further promote this campaign by purchasing outdoor advertising in Los Angeles, California.”

At the time of writing, the GoFundMe has raised $530 of its $2,500 goal. Party on!
