The first lady was so impressed by McLaurin’s attitude and energy, she said, “I wanna be like you when I grow up.”
“You can,” responded McLaurin, before breaking out into dance.
“I thought I would never live to get in the White House,” said McLaurin. “And I tell you, I am so happy.”
McLaurin, who was born in 1909, was behind a social media campaign to get the opportunity to meet the president, which started with a YouTube video in 2014.
“A black president; a black wife; and I’m here to celebrate black history,” a proud McLaurin said, while looking up at the U.S. head of state.
“You have just made our day,” Michelle Obama said.
“Well you made my day,” McLaurin responded.
