TORONTO – Police say at least on suspect is still outstanding after a bank robbery in Etobicoke Saturday morning.
Police were notified of a hold-up alarm at a TD branch in the area of The Queensway and Kipling Road at 7:30 Saturday morning.
When police arrived, they encountered a masked man armed with a handgun.
Police said “an interaction” took place and a man was shot twice. He was transported to a trauma centre with life-threatening injuries.
Communications officer Jason Gennaro says at least one police officer fired shots, and an alleged robber was struck.
He says at this point in the investigation, the SIU is “fairly certain” the man was hit by a police bullet.
Police Inspector Mike Earle told reporters that at least one other suspect left the scene in a silver compact car.
The province’s Special Investigations Unit has been called in to examine the circumstances of the shooting.
