The city lights up for the Montréal en Lumière festival

MONTREAL – Fashion, music, art, food, theatre and parties – everything you love about Montreal is amped-up and on display for the 17th edition of the Montréal en Lumière festival.

Organizers said it’s a good way to get Montrealers out of hibernation during the cold winter months.

“February is a tough month. It’s dark so we have this festival to bring back the lights,” festival president Jacques-André Dupont told Global News at the opening ceremony Thursday.

Outside, there are ziplines, slides and daily performances from the Théâtre de la Dame de Coeur, with their nine-metre tall puppets.

Inside, former Montreal Maestro Charles Dutoit is back leading the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, this time as a guest.

Outdoor parties will be held at Place des Festivals every Saturday until the festival wraps up on Mar. 5.

This year’s festival is in honour of the Chinese city of Shenzhen.
