UPDATE: Death of woman at northwest Calgary hotel not suspicious

CALGARY – The Calgary Police homicide unit has been called in to investigate what they’re calling the “undetermined death” of a woman, who was discovered in a hotel room in the northwest community of Montgomery.

Police said officers went to check on the woman around 2 p.m. Thursday, after someone found her inside a second-floor room at the Red Carpet Inn & Suites, in the 4600 block of 16 Avenue N.W.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“A witness did find her deceased and immediately contacted 911 as soon as she did,” Acting Staff Sgt. Darren Smith said.

Smith said he could not say whether the witness was an employee of the hotel or whether there were any signs of violence in the room.

Police have so far been unable to identify the woman.

The homicide unit has been called in, which is protocol in all undetermined death investigations.

“We’re looking into … whether she was alone in the room, whether there were other individuals associated to that room – and that’s all information that would come out later in the investigation,” Smith said.

An autopsy has not been scheduled yet.
