Police in Boise, Idaho released dash-cam video this week of a high-speed pursuit of a pickup truck which ended with a violent rollover ejecting the driver into the air.
The incident occurred in April 2015 and started when 32-year-old Jose Manuel Sanchez rammed a police vehicle, injuring a Boise Police officer during a traffic stop.
Sanchez had been stopped for a minor traffic violation and initially stopped his truck, turning his vehicle around after the officer exited his vehicle.
Sanchez drove straight toward the officer who only partially got back into his vehicle before Sanchez rammed the police car, causing the door to slam shut and trap the officer’s leg.
The officer called for help and a pursuit that reached in excess of an estimated 160 km per hour continued for about five km.
The video shows the Dodge RAM pickup truck drive across a grassy median but when he tries to get back on the highway he loses control, flipping the truck. A wheel from the truck can be seen as well as the driver who is seen upside down, high in the air over the dust storm caused by the rollover.
Lucky to be alive, Sanchez continues to run as an officer tries to take him into custody.
Police quickly apprehended Sanchez and he was transported to hospital with undisclosed, non-life threatening injuries.
He was charged with felony battery of an officer, eluding and possession of a controlled substance and was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
