TORONTO – The emergency department of a downtown Toronto hospital was closed early today because of flooding.
Officials at St. Michael’s Hospital say it was caused by a burst pipe on the hospital’s second floor and that staff are working to fix the problem.
But until they do, the emergency department is closed to both walk-ins and trauma patients until further notice.
Patients who were in the department at the time of the burst pipe have been relocated to other areas of the hospital.
“We work with our partner hospitals, EMS, with Ornge so, if there’s anyone in Toronto who needs emergency help there are lots of plans in place to make sure they get the help they need,” said St. Michael’s spokesperson Leslie Shepherd.
