SASKATOON – A local philanthropist committed to donate up to $100,000 to help Syrian refugees Friday. Kay Nasser made the announcement at the launch of a music video by local artist, and Nasser’s daughter-in law, Elly Thorn.
Proceeds from every download of Thorn’s song You Don’t Even Know Me will go to the Canadian Red Cross. The video features many Syrian refugees who have made Saskatoon their new home.

Nasser will match the donation up to $100,000, and if the purchase happens before March, the Government of Canada will contribute the same amount as well.
The Nasser family immigrated to Saskatoon from Lebanon and still has relatives living in Syria.
“When we talk to them, they say ‘there is nothing. I can’t believe it,'” Nasser said.
The Nassers are also donating $10,000 to the Saskatoon Open Door Society and the Global Gathering Place to help with refugee settlement in the city.
