NAIT hosted the Classic Video Game Championship, inviting players, developers and vendors to take part in a friendly contest and share their love of gaming.

“They just like to have fun,” organizer Andrew Reid said. “Everybody from the age of four– to the oldest person was 70. We’re just trying to bring them all together to mix and mingle and talk about video games.”

The daily email you need for Edmonton's top news stories.

Hundreds of people took part in the event. “It’s a lot larger than you think,” Reid added, speaking about Edmonton’s gaming community.

The event is a community tournament for anyone wanting to play or swap old games.

It’s also the third of four qualifiers to be held in Edmonton, with the final championship taking place later this spring.

“It brings you back to the days where you were sitting on the couch with your friends, brother or sisters, or your parents– trying to beat each other at video games,” Reid said.
