SASKATOON – The group behind Saskatoon’s fringe festival is planning to hold the event on Broadway Avenue, despite construction scheduled for the roadway. The City of Saskatoon announced plans earlier this week to fix water mains and resurface the road between the Broadway Bridge and 8th Street.
Robert Wyma, executive director of 25th Street Theatre, said it’s too early to know which portions of Broadway will be impacted by construction during the festival.
“We will have contingencies in place,” Wyma said.
Wyma has been meeting with members of the Broadway Business Improvement District and the City of Saskatoon as the construction schedule is determined.
“Those details are being handled and we are working to accommodate and work around those events,” said Mike Gutek, director of major projects with the City of Saskatoon, who spoke at a news conference Wednesday.

The Broadway Bridge may be closed for about one week during the four or five month project.
“We do have a grid network of streets there. We are phasing the work and taking advantage of the grid network of streets to provide for anyone who has Broadway as a destination,” Gutek said.
The PotashCorp Fringe Theatre & Street Festival is scheduled from July 28 to August 6.
