WATCH: Darnell Nurse’s scrap with Ottawa’s Max McCormick sends parents to their feet

EDMONTON – It was another exciting night for Oilers’ fans as forward Jordan Eberle led the team to a 7-2 victory over the Senators in Ottawa Thursday night.

But if that wasn’t enough excitement for fans, a fight between Edmonton’s Darnell Nurse and Ottawa’s Max McCormick brought a pair of Oilers’ fans to their feet at Canadian Tire Centre.

The 21-year-old Nurse was playing in his home province and his parents were in the stands. They cheered their son on with sheer excitement as he scrapped with McCormick.

Nurse comes from an athletic family. His father, Richard Nurse, was born in Trinidad and Tobago and raised in Hamilton, Ont. He was a wide receiver for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Nurse’s mother, Cathy, played university basketball at McMaster University.

The defenceman’s sister, Kia, led Team Canada to a gold medal in basketball at the 2015 Pan Am Games.

Nurse was selected seventh overall by the Oilers in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

He has eight points in 43 games with the Oilers this season.
