Quebec reveals new measures to help Montreal homeless

MONTREAL – The Quebec government announced Friday morning it will invest more than $4 million in new measures to deal with homeless people with psychological problems in Montreal.

Measures include a new team pairing a police officer and a social worker who will get a person in crisis off the street and into a hospital for emergency help, Health Minister Yves Bolduc announced in Montreal.

He was accompanied by Montreal Mayor Gérald Tremblay.

The team will patrol the greater downtown area daily between 4 p.m. and midnight and will complement an existing unit of police and social workers who track problem cases of homeless people, Bolduc said.
