TORONTO — Police have identified a suspect after the alleged “gum thief” made off with some $1,500 worth of the chewy candy from a Markham, Ont., pharmacy.
York region police say the bizarre theft saw a man arrive by taxi at the business and load a garbage bag with the gum in the candy aisle the night of Dec. 17, 2015.
The suspect left, but then returned to fill a second garbage bag before getting back into the waiting cab and leaving, with the incident caught on surveillance video.

All told, $1,528 worth of chewing gum was stolen, according to police.
Investigators said Tuesday they now have a suspect — 46-year-old Lester Hosein, of no fixed address.
They’re asking for the public’s help finding him, saying he is believed to be in the Greater Toronto Area.
