La Loche prepares to say goodbye to the Fontaine brothers

People in La Loche are saying goodbye to the Fontaine brothers. The funeral for Dayne Fontaine, 17, and Drayden Fontaine, 13, is being held Tuesday in the northern Saskatchewan community.

The brothers were fatally shot in a home before nine staff and students were shot at the town’s high school on Jan. 22.

Teacher’s aide Marie Janvier, 21, died at the school and Adam Wood, a 35-year-old teacher from Ontario, died soon after in hospital.

Federal NDP Leader Thomas Mulcair will be attending the funeral.

The funeral for Janvier was held Saturday and the funeral for Wood will be in Uxbridge, Ont. this Saturday.

A 17-year-old boy, who can’t be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder. He remains in custody until his next court appearance on Feb. 22.
