On Wednesday, the 26-year-old mother received an ultrasound at a radiology clinic in the Foothills Professional Building in Calgary checking in on her 20-week-old fetus.

Kim already has two boys, three and five years old, and this ultrasound would answer the question of the baby’s gender, among other things.

What she and the technician saw next, however, was entirely unexpected.

It was a small gesture – a thumbs-up – that Kim said has given her family some inspiration.

“My hubby was laid off four months ago and we found out we were pregnant with our third baby right after. This photo tells me that yes, everything is going to be alright,” said Kim.

Kim’s husband had been working as a manager for an oil and gas company.
