UPDATE: Saanich police arrest suspect in ‘disturbing sexual assault’ and robbery

UPDATE: After a lengthy investigation, police identified a suspect in the January Saanich sexual assault. Saanich police located the 43-year-old man in Saskatoon, and with the help of the local police, arrested the suspect. David Hope has been arrested for one count of break and enter, one count of sexual assault, two counts of robbery, and two counts of forcible confinement. Hope was taken back to Victoria on Wednesday night and was scheduled to appear in court this morning.

Police are looking for a suspect involved in a disturbing sexual assault and robbery that happened on Wednesday night in Saanich.

A Saanich coffee shop in the 3600-block of Shelbourne Street contacted police just before 8 p.m. after two young women arrived in distress.

According to the victims, a man came to their residence in the 1500-block of Church Avenue and began banging on the door. The women, who are in their 20s, opened the door when they believed the glass may break. Once inside, the man allegedly sexually assaulted the women.

The victims were then taken by the suspect from their home to a nearby bank to get money. Both women withdrew cash and gave it to the suspect, who later fled on foot westbound across Shelbourne Street.

Police are investigating the incident and asks anyone who can identify the suspect to contact Saanich Police or Crime Stoppers.

The suspect is described as: Caucasian man, 30-40 years old, 5’11” with a medium build. He was unshaven with a balding head and wore a gray hooded sweat shirt and gray or dark pants.
