Police say alcohol or drugs were not a factor in the crash, although they suspect medical issues may have played a part. The driver has been taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

There was significant structural damage to Distrikt, which is part of the expansive Strathcona Hotel.

Douglas Street was closed for sometime while crews removed the car, but has since reopened.
