Newly released security camera footage has caught a fatal assault on a patient by a doctor at a Russian hospital on December 29 in the southern city of Belogorod.
The doctor, identified by Russian media as Ilya Zelendinov, went after 56-year-old patient Yevgeny Bakhtin after he had allegedly “kicked a nurse during a procedure,” investigators were quoted as saying in a Telegraph news report.
In the video, the doctor can be seen entering the room and grabbing the patient by the arm. Another man tries to intervene, but is also attacked by the doctor. After pummeling on the other man the doctor then turns his attention back to the patient and delivers a punch to his head, knocking the patient to the ground.

The patient lost consciousness after the blow to the head and died after attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.
According to investigators “the cause of death of the victim was trauma to the skull and brain from hitting the back of the head on the hard surface of the floor.”
The doctor has been fired from his job and investigators said he could face up to two years in prison for causing death by negligence according to the Telegraph report.
The charge of negligence would be based on the fact there is “no grounds to say that the doctor wanted to murder the patient.”
An investigation into the incident was opened on Saturday by Russian Health Minister Veronika Skvortsova.
The incident caught on camera has gone viral on YouTube, while the doctor has been dubbed by the Russian media as the “the boxer doctor.”
