EDMONTON – Edmonton’s police chief said there will be a renewed focus to keep city roads safe in 2016.
Close to 100 officers will be assigned to traffic enforcement, Rod Knecht said Friday morning.

Knecht’s announcement comes after a year that saw an increase in collisions in Edmonton.
There were 35 traffic fatalities in 2015 compared to 23 in 2014.
There were 2,344 injury collisions in the city last year, up from 2,330 the previous year, and a total of 38,933, an increase of 3.1 per cent from 2014.
