EDMONTON – Just over one year ago, David Luu lost his wife in what became the largest mass murder in Edmonton’s history.

Cyndi Duong was helping their three children with their homework when the doorbell rang. She was fatally shot in their home in front of their kids.

Duong was one of eight people killed between Dec. 28 and Dec. 29, 2014 by 53-year-old Phu Lam, who later took his own life.

One year after the deadly rampage, Luu spoke to Global News about his family and how he tries to move forward every day, for the sake of his children.

When asked what he’d like people to know about Cyndi, he responded by sharing a poem he wrote about her. It is posted below:

Cyndi my wife,
My feet dance because of you.
My lungs draw breath because of you.
My heart skips a beat because of you.
My eyes see beauty because of you.
My mind thinks because of you.
My soul is complete because of you.

And I love you because of you.

I know faithfulness, because of you.
I know integrity, because of you.
I know pure joy, because of you.
I know true love, because of you.

And I am complete because of you.

Your feet show me new adventure.
Your legs show me the world.
Your touch melts away my sorrows.
Your hands take away my burden.
Your arms comfort me.
Your lips give me wisdom.
Your kisses warm my heart.
Your smile gives me great joy.
Your eyes show me truths.
Your heart fills me with love.

And thank you for loving me for me.

Thank you for being my best friend.
Thank you for being my wife.
I will always love you and miss you.

Your loving husband, David Luu

Their son Noah also wrote a poem for his mom, which David shared with us.
