Denver firefighters seemingly used the equivalent of a tiny hardware store to rescue a kitten with its head stuck in a dumpster drain hole.
Authorities received a report Friday afternoon alerting them to the distressed cat. Station Fire Chief Greg Taft told 9 News that the feline was malnourished and had been in the dumpster “for a while.”

“We used a drill, a reciprocating saw, a grinder and what we call a ‘Whiz Wheel.’ We also had to use water to keep the dumpster cool when we were cutting the metal so we didn’t burn the cat as well,” Lt. Aaron Jonke said.
It remains unclear how the feline got in the dumpster.
“Somebody called and they’re a bunch of big softies down here at Station 8, so we wanted to make sure we took care of that cat,” Jonke said.
Denver Fire claims the kitten was brought to the Denver Animal Shelter to recover and possibly be put up for adoption if it isn’t claimed.
