REGINA – A seven-year-old girl had to be taken to hospital after a dramatic rescue from a chairlift at Mission Ridge Winter Park Thursday.
According to Don Williams, Mission Ridge’s general manager, the skier wasn’t loaded on to the lift properly and ended up dangling about 20 feet above the ground from her helmet.

“We couldn’t get up to her, she wasn’t near one of the towers and she was up higher than our ladders so we ended up catching her in a catch-net,” he said.
The girl was off the lift within a matter of minutes and taken to a hospital as a precaution.
Williams said all ski patrol staff are trained for lift evacuations.
“We’re fully prepared for eventualities like that,” he said. “It was a scary situation for all of us, because we train for it but when it happens it’s still scary.”
Witnesses applauded the staffs’ quick actions to get the girl down quickly and safely.
