CALGARY – Old shipping pallets might not be the first things that come to mind when you think of decorating your home for the holidays, but after Calgarian Crystal Wasyliw works her magic on them, you might think again.
Wasysliw takes apart the pallets and uses the boards to make wooden Christmas trees, making “something out of nothing,” as she puts it.
“Some people knit, some people crochet—Crystal makes trees,” her husband, Kevin, said.
“I was working in the oilpatch and got laid off,” Wasyliw explained. “I started trying to figure out other ways to bring money in for the family.”
“I’ve got them advertised on Kijiji, trying to sell them. If I do, great. If not, I’ve got gifts for friends and family.”
She said she likes the thought that something she’s made will bring joy to someone else.
