‘I’ll take a bullet before you do,’ San Bernardino cop says as he leads evacuees to safety

In the midst of Wednesday’s mass shooting at a social services building in California, a San Bernardino cop calmly escorted evacuees from the building, telling them he would take a bullet for them.

Video shared by U.S. public radio station KPCC shows a large group of people being escorted down a hallway of the Inland Regional Center by a San Bernardino police officer.

According to the radio station, the footage was captured by Gabi Flores, a customer service coordinator for the social services centre.

Video shows a line of people, with their hands raised in the air, walking down the hallway towards the officer.

“Try to relax, everyone, try to relax,” the unidentified cop said. “I’ll take a bullet before you do, that’s for damn sure. Just be cool, OK?”

The armed officer guides the large group of evacuees towards the end of the hall to the elevators and eventually to safety.

The mass shooting left 14 people dead and 17 others injured. Police identified the two shooting suspects as Syed Rizwan Farook, 28, and Tashfeen Malik, 27.

The suspects were killed in a police standoff hours after the shooting.
