Eskimos fans gather at airport to welcome home Grey Cup champs

EDMONTON – It is sure to be a warm homecoming for the Edmonton Eskimos, who won the 2015 Grey Cup in Winnipeg Sunday after a tight battle with the Ottawa Redblacks.

The Eskimos Cheer Team, along with dozens of fans, gathered at the Edmonton International Airport Monday morning, awaiting the team’s arrival.

“It’s great for the fans,” said David Eliuk, who brought his two young kids to welcome the team home. “It’s been a while since we’ve had a championship team back in the city. We had the Oil Kings with the Memorial Cup which was big and brought everybody together and I think the Eskimos will do the same thing.”

“Let’s go Eskimos!” added little Henry, from his perch on his dad’s lap.

The Esks finished the game 26-20 over the Redblacks after trailing 13-0 early in the game.

While fans cheered, sang, and sounded horns, game MVP answered some questions after touching down in Edmonton.

“I think from a fan perspective, it was an exciting game,” said quarterback Mike Reilly. “Just leave it all out on the field.”

“Just feel blessed and happy to be a part of it. It’s nice to have this bad boy back in Edmonton, for sure.”

“To see the reception… it’s pretty special,” said Reilly.

The QB said he tried to go to bed early but had trouble falling asleep Sunday night.

He said the team will get physicals with the Eskimos’ doctors later Monday afternoon.
