Charges against Alberta man upgraded to murder after victim of ‘vicious assault’ dies

EDMONTON – Christopher Harrison, 37, has been charged with second-degree murder after a man who was assaulted in an Edson hotel died from his injuries.

Harrison was initially charged with aggravated assault after Preston William Goulet, 42, was taken to hospital with serious injuries on Nov. 11.

RCMP said Goulet, a resident of Edson, was “the victim of a vicious assault.”

Four days later he died. An autopsy by the Edmonton Medical Examiner’s Office determined Goulet’s death was a homicide.

RCMP believe Goulet suffered his injuries during an incident between the two men on the evening of Nov. 11 at the Moose Creek Hotel in Edson.

Harrison was arrested Wednesday, was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Edson Provincial Court on Dec. 1.
