Celebrating multiculturalism through drums

REGINA – The Multicultural Council of Saskatchewan (MCS) continued its Multicultural Celebration on Sunday with a drumming workshop.

Four different drumming styles came together from various cultural groups; Ugandan, west African, Pow-Wow drumming, and various First Nation’s handheld drums.

“Well I think it’s pretty universal. You’d be hard pressed to find any culture that doesn’t have some kind of drumming,” said MCS Executive Director Rhonda Rosenberg.

Through a series of demonstrations and collaborations the drummers learned about the cultural background of each groups drums.

The Multicultural Celebration is a series of events to commemorate the 41st anniversary of the Saskatchewan Multiculturalism Act.
