Rogers Place update: Headway being made on Edmonton’s downtown arena

EDMONTON – The scheduled opening of Rogers Place in downtown Edmonton is less than a year away and progress on the arena is steady.

The arena at 104th Avenue and 104th Street is scheduled to open fall 2016, in time for the start of the 2016/2017 Edmonton Oilers season.

A photo gallery has recently been posted on the Rogers Place website to showcase how the arena looks from the inside and outside as of early November.

All the steel work has been completed and the roof is now enclosed on the 18,500-seat arena.

For the City of Edmonton, Rogers Place represents much more than an arena for hockey and concerts; it’s the cornerstone of a downtown transformation.

In July, statistics were released showing a 14 per cent jump in Edmonton building permits over the previous year, and a 33 per cent increase over the five year average.

The total cost of the arena is $606 million.
