Edmonton sports corner: NHL coach’s challenge just isn’t my thing

EDMONTON – This will be just a quick one. I’m just really feeling the need to express my opinion about the newly-implemented coach’s challenge in the NHL.

Are there people out there that actually like it? Please let me know if you do and why.

I absolutely hate it.

I know that it helped the Oilers against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Nov. 6. But it also hindered the Oilers against the Calgary Flames on Halloween.

I think it’s robbing the game of purity.

At the end of the day, it’s a game played by humans and officiated by humans and humans make mistakes.

Everything is now looked at in every sport. Hockey and baseball had that over football and it was a beautiful thing.

I’m no doubt a bit of a traditionalist, but I don’t think that we have to change the game to this extent to make it better.
