EDMONTON – Six people, all under the age of 34, were arrested in two investigations as part of a crackdown on violence associated with the Fort McMurray drug trade, said ALERT.

The Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team, along with RCMP, seized half a kilogram of cocaine, a loaded handgun – equipped with a prohibited magazine and serial number removed – and nearly $10,000 cash from a home in the Woodland neighbourhood in Fort McMurray on Oct. 23.

Three men from Toronto were arrested: 29-year-old Magan Omar, 21-year-old Mohamud Abdullahi Omar, and 21-year-old Jimmy Le.

ALERT said the three men are part of a group suspected of being heavily involved in street-level drug trafficking. They are facing various drugs and firearms offences and have extensive histories with police. Omar has an outstanding criminal organization charge stemming from a Toronto Police investigation.

Forensic analysis and ballistics testing will be done on the handgun seized to determine if it was used in any other crimes.
