WATCH: Oak Park Raiders advance to semifinal in high school football

WINNIPEG – The quest for the repeat continues for the defending champion Oak Park Raiders. The Raiders are a step closer to back to back championships in the Winnipeg High School Football League after defeating the Grant Park Pirates 25-23 in the quarterfinals on Friday night at the University of Manitoba.

Down by two points in fourth quarter, Raiders kicker Niko DiFonte made a late field goal to give the Raiders the lead for good after trailing by two at the half. Oak Park running back Kieran Stone rushed for two touchdowns and passed for another. Wyatt Tait also found the endzone for the Raiders.

Antonio Rossi and Josh Weichel scored touchdowns for Grant Park.

Oak Park just squeaked into the playoffs with a 3-4 record in finishing in sixth place in the regular season. The Raiders have won seven varsity championships in school history and broke a three year drought last season by ending the St. Paul’s Crusaders three year reign as champions.

Oak Park will face the winner between Murdoch MacKay and Vincent Massey in next weeks semifinal. The St. Paul’s Crusaders already advanced to the final four.
