WINNIPEG — A Manitoban now living Mexico is hoping the hurricane hurtling towards her beach side community will not be as strong as expected.

Hurricane Patricia, with expected winds of up to 325 km/h, is predicted to made landfall this afternoon. The category five hurricane could bring with it 40 foot waves.

Chauneece David lives in Puerto Vallarta with her husband and three kids. The former Manitoban moved there in 2010. David tells Global News she is very concerned because their home is just a block from the ocean.

Video sent from the former Manitoba shows several emergency vehicles traveling up and down the streets.

They can be heard saying in Spanish “Go back to your house, take cover!”

Seven million people have been told to prepare for the worst case scenario
