Two men attacked with hammer in Red Deer home invasion

CALGARY – Police in Red Deer have laid charges in a violent break and enter where two residents were attacked by a man with a hammer.

It happened in Riverside Meadows, shortly before midnight on Oct. 16.

RCMP said the suspect climbed onto the roof of a parked vehicle to gain access to a second-floor apartment balcony.

The two men inside the apartment were able to push the assailant back out, at which point he jumped from the balcony, landing on the parked vehicle, entered another vehicle and then fled.

EMS treated the victims for bruises and abrasions.

“The suspect was known to his victims,” said RCMP in a Wednesday news release. “Red Deer RCMP located him shortly afterward on 55 Avenue.Police executed a traffic stop and took the suspect into custody without incident.”

RCMP have charged 28-year-old Tyrel Jackson with a handful of offenses, including break and enter, assault with a weapon, possession of stolen property and possession of a controlled substance.
